The Perks of Working in Public Relations

Working at The Burnette Agency has some pretty cool perks. From free pizza from our clients to scouting the coolest wall art on the Beltline for a photoshoot, it’s no secret we work in an awesome industry. The work we do at The Burnette Agency varies from social media, to photography to a variety of creative services.  With no two days being the same it’s exciting to see what amazing advantages come on a day-to-day basis! . Below, I've outlined some of my favorites.

It Isn’t a One-Size-Fits-All Profession.

All public relations (PR) roles involve using communication skills to build, maintain and manage your client’s reputation. However, there are many different types of job roles! Whether you like to write, pitch, research or strategize, there is a place for you in the communications field! You might start out in one role and decide it isn’t for you, but another role is. The great thing is that there are jobs to fit your strengths, whatever your interest might be.

No Two Days Are The Same

This is full of fast-paced industry with lots of change. If you fancy the idea of having a career with a variety of experiences, public relations is an industry might be your calling. The industry as a whole has unique roles that provide opportunities to make your mark. Depending on where you work, there’s room for creativity, relationship-building, learning, and growth both professionally and personally. I enjoy the fact that I do not work a traditional 9-to-5 desk job. One day I'll be styling a photoshoot, the next I'll be researching the latest shoe trends. No two days are the same in this role. Just when you think you have seen it all, something new happens.

The Networking

As a public relations and social media agency in Atlanta, we have the unique opportunity to meet so many cool and unique businesses. Just as you are always evolving and growing, so are the people you meet. These connections have proven to be invaluable. Here at The Burnette Agency, we have our own “who you know” network. In addition to the social media networking we do daily,  we have found the people we meet in person as just as priceless. The possibilities of clients have proven to be endless, and bring a whole new meaning to “it’s a small world.” (Which is why you should always be nice to people!)

The Variation

A considerable reason why people choose to get into the industry of public relations is because it gives professionals the opportunity to dabble in a number of industries without necessarily making a career-long commitment. You can transfer your public relations and social skills when you are assigned to a new account, and then see if you develop a liking to that industry of business. I personally find it exciting to have a role in growing several business in a number of industries simultaneously.

The People

Working at a PR agency should be fun, so if you work and PR and you’re miserable, it’s time to change jobs. The field itself goes far beyond the typical lunch outings and drinks after work. Public relations agencies prioritize building relationships and collaborating with colleagues, so time together – no matter how the time is spent! – is encouraged. We love group work, and not the type you had in college you would cringe at knowing that you’d do all the work. It’s a feeling unlike any other when you get to be a part of a team all working towards achieving the same objectives. By having everyone pulling in the same direction for growth, we are able to go above and beyond our client’s expectations. It’s a thrill to be part of an agency trending upward, as you know that you are making contributions that make a real difference to your clients’ businesses and the health of your agency. In PR, we value working hard together, but having fun along the way, and it’s a reason why I love hanging my hat at a The Burnette Agency.
