How to Find Design Inspiration

When you are a graphic designer and designing 24/7, you can sometimes get into an inspiration rut. It can be difficult to constantly create unique, fresh designs for your clients all the time, which is why finding the right inspiration is so helpful. Here are the three channels I find the most helpful when looking for design inspiration:

Pinterest

Pinterest is probably the number one digital channel to find inspiration – for anything! Make some Pinterest boards for different design areas – emails, logos, stationery, advertisements, etc., and start searching for visuals you like. Once you start pinning these frequently, your news feed will automatically start populating with similar content.

Instagram

Instagram is such a great place to find inspiration because the absorption is subtle. As you’re scrolling through your news feed, you will naturally take in the design styles, and you’ll remember them in the future. Follow other graphic designers, brands, artists, and even bloggers – they all will have graphic-based posts and will allow you to not only gain inspiration, but will help you in keeping an eye on visual trends and what consumers seem to be most responsive to.

Emails

If you’re trying to find inspiration for your email designs, the best thing you can do is to actually open all the promotional emails you receive. Sign up for the newsletters for the brands that are similar and different to yours, and make sure you open every single email you receive. You will find so much inspiration through just viewing different designs from different companies, each with their own style and vision.
