Before I begin to describe my amazing first week with The Burnette Agency, I want to explain how I ended up here. To be honest, I didn’t know I wanted to have a career in the public relations or social media field until recently. After taking several courses at Clemson University, I realized that the field of communications was perfect for me. It became my passion and I knew that this is what I wanted to pursue and that Atlanta is where I wanted to be. After countless hours of researching PR Agencies located in the Atlanta area, I decided which ones I could envision myself working for. Once I narrowed down my list, The Burnette Agency really stuck out to me because of it’s hands on approach, values, active consultation and strong relationships with clients. All things that I valued when looking for a job. After several weeks of corresponding with Arielle and a social media project to test my skills, I was very excited to accept the position as the Social Media Coordinator at The Burnette Agency.
Monday was my first full day, and I was so excited! I had landed my dream job in my dream city and today was finally the day I would get my start! Arielle, the founder of The Burnette Agency started the morning with a tour around our office. We are located at the Industrious office in Midtown which is a bright and collaborative space, filled with entrepreneurs and companies that are on the cutting edge of Atlanta’s growth. Afterwards, we talked a bit about expectations before meeting with our Photographer and having our first team meeting. I was so excited that it was almost hard to soak everything in. We spent time learning about clients, gathering ideas, talking about the business, setting goals for our positions and personal growth and of course took some time to get to know one another. It is a lot to take in but for the first time, I am thrilled to really be able to get my feet wet and learn so much about how to strategically serve our clients. Throughout the day, I could see all three of us had different strengths that would benefit one another and create a really great work atmosphere.
I think my excitement to go to work grew more and more throughout the week. I was becoming familiar with using different softwares, and what my responsibilities were. But, my favorite day was Wednesday. The day started out with a meeting with one of our clients Lewis and Sheron, a textile store in midtown. After Arielle and I met with the owners, we paired back up with Joe to stage shots for the clients social media accounts. The day was like a whirlwind but it was incredibly exciting. I realized rather quickly that no two days would be the same and I was loving every minute of it.
Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” For the first time, I truly believe I have found a job which reflects that.
Go Tigers,
